Hello,
I’m Sophia,
I am a Toronto based wedding photographer.
My style of wedding photography is contemporary and creative. I offer fashion inspired wedding photos with a mix of candid portrait photography. I got my start in wedding photography working as a second shooter and eventually started working for several wedding studios. In 2012 I branched out on my own.
I find it necessary that I also need to address the following.
I am a trans woman and previously used the name Daryl Banks. You can read my coming out letter here.
I came out as a trans woman this past November. This is somewhat of an unprecedented situation and despite looking high and low as far as I know I am the first out and open trans woman who is a professional photographer. In all honesty I am still learning how to navigate this.
I sincerely hope that people can look past this and see me as a person and a photographer. My being transgender has little to do with the quality of my photography. If anything I am a happier and more rounded person and I believe my wedding photography will reflect that.
It is my sincere hope that I can help to raise awareness and acceptance of transgender people. As a trans woman and entrepreneur I am by default a trans advocate and activist.
I am being honest and upfront about this because the reality is I need to be. I have no shame about being transgender and if anything I am proud of who I am.
I hope the lovely people of Toronto can help me show that transgender people like me have a place and role in society. The only change in my wedding photography business is my clothing and hair style.
Thank you for your time,
Sophia
